Akeli Aurat is another production by Natmandap which constitutes of two plays-“Savera” and “Akeli Aurat”. Both these plays are directed by Parvez Akhtar and performed by Shaista Rasheed and Mona jha respectively. “Savera” and “Akeli Aurat” is the hindi adaptation of Italian play ”Rise and Shine” and “Woman Alone” written by Dario Fo and Franka Rame. Both the plays were translated by C L Khatri /Javed Akhtar Khan and directed by Parvez Akhtar. The production was first performed in 2007. From 2007 to 2015 it was performed frequently mostly in Bihar. Later, “Savera” was performed by Enakshi Dey Biswas.
The play is a crucial one in contemporary era and raises concerns for gender issues. It was the first attempt made by Natmandap to indulge in the gender discourse.
